Business Port Augusta is set to officially launch the Green Power Festival, South Australia’s first ever renewables festival, on Tuesday evening 12 November. The launch event will be attended by members of the government and business communities, and generous sponsors who have come on board to fund the festival.
Chairperson of Business Port Augusta, Darren Sherriff, said the response from the government and business community has been incredible.
“We’ve been able to attract a significant amount of funding for the festival, and the program is looking very exciting as a result. There will be plenty of activities and entertainment for the whole family when the festival kicks off the first week in April 2020, right here in Port Augusta,” Mr Sherriff said.
“I see the festival as a celebration of Port Augusta and its transformation from coal to renewable energy. This is something the entire community can be involved in and we can enjoy Port Augusta’s journey together. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of our generous sponsors, in particular, the Australian Government, SIMEC and ZEN Energy,” he said.
Marc Barrington, Chief Executive Officer SIMEC Energy Australia, Platinum Sponsors for the event, said, “We are very proud to be part of this important festival and the role it will play in educating and accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Together, ZEN Energy and SIMEC Energy Australia are at the forefront of Australia’s transition to decentralised, low carbon energy, and we believe that with the right actions by good people, entire communities like Port Augusta and the entire Upper Spencer Gulf will be too.”
“Our sponsorship of this festival will be focused on helping the energy users of Port Augusta and the Upper Spencer Gulf realise the benefits that renewable energy can provide, with a partner they can trust. We are already investing heavily in the region with our 280MW solar farm at Cultana and our grid scale battery outside of Port Augusta, and in the months to come you will see us investing even more time and resources into the region to help residential, commercial, and industrial energy users find a more sustainable way with their energy needs,” Mr Barrington said.
The Green Power Festival will include exhibitions, tours, a Twilight Gala in the Barracks, and a Green Fair, including an expo, sustainability market, music, performers, kid’s entertainment and interactive science.
